The Ultimate Blog Party

I am excited to be participating in the 2012 Ultimate Blog Party. I hope to discover many new, insightful blogs while getting My Color Coded Life out there for others to discover. For more information on how to get involved with this event click here: 2012 Ultimate Blog Party.

In the spirit of parties, here are my top 5 “must-dos” when hosting a party.

1.) Have an invitation.  I know it seems “old-school” but I like it.  It fancies it up a bit instead of just calling or emailing friends telling them to come over. Be upfront and honest in the invite if it is a kid-friendly gathering. Sometimes it is obvious (sit-down evening dinner) but daytime barbeque? It’s as simple as putting their names on the invite.  As a mom, I appreciate this. I am not offended if it’s adults only, it’s just great to know if the little ones are invited.

2.) Create a simple, affordable, ample menu that takes into consideration diet restrictions.  If it is not a sit down meal, make a few appetizers that allow people to pick and choose what they like.  Have a vegetarian option and a low calorie option.

3.) Have both an alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink option.

4.) Have plenty of sitting room available, even if it means putting more chairs out than are usually in your living room.

5.) Have the dessert double as a take-away favor.  Everyone like something sweet and it’s nice to give your guests a little something when they go.

I am gearing up for my daughter’s first birthday party in June – so I am sure I will be blogging more about party planning in the near future! Leave me a comment about your party planning “must-dos.”  I would love to hear your ideas!

Many thanks to the ladies at 5 Minutes for Mom for creating this great event.

Happy reading and blogging!

Hi! Visiting you back from the UBP. I loved your party hosting tips. I love getting mail so I couldn’t agree more, getting an invite in the mail definitely helps set the tone from the beginning. I can’t wait to see what you plan for your daughter’s first birthday!
