My Friday Favorites 1.18.19

On TV:
This Is Us, Tuesdays 9pm EST, NBC (Disclaimer: Grey’s Anatomy and the return to the elevator is still on my DVR.)
The end of January marks the return of new episodes for all our favorite network TV shows including This Is Us! The first moments of this week’s episode took us straight to election night, so apparently Randall is still running. Many other questions were raised – why is Kate upset? What happened with Kevin and Zoe? What’s going on with Randall and Beth? But in true This Is Us fashion we flashbacked through seven weeks to find out how we ended up here. Randall and Beth have always been my favorite people on this show. They are #couplegoals! (Despite the flash forward scenes with Randall and adult Tess that have been suggesting maybe they aren’t together anymore???) But in this episode, I wanted to give Beth a copy of My Friday Favorite book below!

Becoming by Michelle Obama
This fantastic memoir took you from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago all the way to Inauguration Day 2017. I have both the hardback copy and the audio version on audible. It was so incredible to hear Michelle read her own words that I started to think she was my girlfriend chatting me up about her husband, Barack. Even when I wasn’t in my car, I still tuned in to have her read to me as I followed along!

Never Tell Her: “He’s Mean Because He Likes You” from A Mighty Girl blog. Associating any type of mistreatment or harassment with affection or romantic feelings must stop. This article breaks down why this ancient idea is a terrible message to send to our little girls. Complete with a book list for a range of ages, check this out for your daughters, nieces, students, basically any girl in your life!

Celebrate Martin Luther King Day. Monday may be a day off from school or work but remember there are many events and volunteer opportunities around the country to give back in the spirit of Dr. King. Here is a comprehensive list of what is happening in my hometown of Philadelphia.

What things are you loving this week? Are you volunteering on Monday? Leave me a comment and tell me what you are watching and reading. Thanks for stopping by!
