My Friday Favorites 07.22.16

Happy Friday! I hope today is the start of a great weekend for you and yours.
Here are the things I am loving this week!

On TV – Judges Cuts are all done on America’s Got Talent and the live shows start next week. But this week I’m picking one of my favorite summer shows – Suits. Season 6 begins with Mike going to prison and Jessica, Louis and Harvey doing everything in their power to keep PSL in business.  Harvey came through like he always does – but this time it cost him something very personal.

On the Page – I just got Real Simple‘s August issue in the mail and I couldn’t wait to read it cover to cover! “How to use paint to transform just about anything” is RIGHT up my alley (look at my past outdoor makeovers using mainly spray paint to transform old furniture here and here.)

On the Web – Lately I’ve been enjoying reading Crazy Organized tips for how to keep everything neat, organized and together. I love her Paper Organization Series and her Fast Fix Friday posts.

For My Classroom – I went into Walmart for beach chairs for my vacation – and came out with 30 notebooks from the back-to-school aisle. Even though I was cursing that the school supply aisles were already in full force – I could not help but scoop up these adorable math notebooks for my daily “Solve-It” problems. Next I need to make cute name labels for everyone!

On Instagram – Loving the That Color Coding System Though post on ‘s IG account.  Click through to the great blog post on her color-coding systems.  Of course I heart all of this!

What are you loving this week? Leave me a comment and let me know. Thanks for reading.

Owl Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! Here are all the things I’m loving this week!

On TV –

  • I haven’t talked about TV in awhile. We did have some great season finales this spring!  Chicago Fire & PD, Scandal, Grey’s, Parenthood!  I can’t wait for all of these to start back up. I binged watched Orange is the New Black Seasons 1 & 2 (I never watched it!  It kind of gave me anxiety.  Anyone else? But I still watched it.) The Divide (new on WE and produced by Fitz from Scandal is taped on my DVR.) I also am watching The Night Shift – even though I would call it Grey’s Lite.  TC (combo of Derrick / McDreamy and Owen / War Issues) has unresolved feelings for his ex Jordan (Meredith) who is dating Bailey from Party of 5 while TC is dating Anna from One Tree Hill…. look, not much is on in the summer.  Growing up summer always meant – no more TV until Fall.  But YAY for USA Network who does summer shows!  I’ve been watching Suits all summer. Mike and Harvey are a divided team.  Jessica is dating and hired Dr. Joe from Parenthood. Rachel is in dangerous territory!!

Suits Season 4

On the Page –

Here are two magazines I have been flipping through a lot! Good Housekeeping June 2014 Issue – great recipes for BBQing on the grill this summer from main dishes, to sides, to s’mores desserts.  House Beautiful July / August 2014 Issue – tips on small spaces, using color, and creating storage.

On the Computer –

  • I had two bananas left in a bunch and I knew they weren’t going to last many more days.  I wanted to try something different than my usual banana bread.  Off to Pinterest I went! There I found: A Little Bit of This, That, and Everything – Banana Cookies .  Directions looked easy, cookies looked delicious = perfect recipe for me.  Olivia was a big help making them. They are really yummy!

In my Beach Bag-

  • Besides towels and sunscreen – Sisterland by Curtis Sittenfeld. I’m not too far into the book yet but I am intrigued by these identical sisters who seem anything but identical!

On my Pinterest Boards –

  •  I’ve been researching outdoor / patio spaces (even though I already made over my patio!)  But I’m helping a friend organize ideas for her patio.  I came across this picture and I just loved it!  So colorful!  I would give credit, but the website Pinterest links the photo to, no longer exists.  (Is that something that drives anyone else crazy on Pinterest?)

Hope you had a great week. What are the things you are loving this week?  Something you bought, cooked, or watched?  Leave me a comment and let me know.  Thanks for reading!

Happy New Year – and where the heck have I been?

Where have I been?  I don’t even have a good answer! I wish I had some fabulous story like I was whisked aways for a two month journey through Europe … but I must be honest, it has been nothing like that!  Work has been busy, family life has been busy and I have been doing a lot of great projects that I SHOULD be blogging about!

Ok – here is a end of the year wrap up for My Color Coded Life!

How we spent the Holidays –Since we last chatted at Halloween, we spent a great Thanksgiving week in Atlanta.  We traveled down by train and Olivia loved it!

Matching navy blue sweat suits!

In addition to fabulous cooking (new recipes to be shared in another post) we also visited Lego Land in Atlanta.

My sisters and I have also been working on a compilation of all of our Thanksgiving / Fall recipes into a big family cookbook/scrapbook.  More details on this will come in another post too!

Christmas was wonderful – great times with family and friends around the dinner table and Christmas trees.

My Color TV

Shows I am still watching on current TV –
Scandal, Nashville, The Carrie Diaries, Awkward, Grey’s Anatomy, Law & Order SVU,  White Collar, Suits, Parenthood, Mad Men

Noteworthy moments – Jackson Avery on Grey’s – stop – she doesn’t deserve you! Will Lexington on Nashville – it gets better!  Olivia and Fitz on Scandal – The Vermont Years?  (I’m #TeamJake – I know that’s not popular.)

Shows I stopped DVRing and or caring about Revenge – all fall I tried to care, but I cancelled the recording on my DVR – I didn’t care who shot Emily. Once Upon a Time – I think I need to wait until this series is over and binge watch it during a summer.  I taped the whole first half of the season of Betrayal – but haven’t watched a single episode … tell me – is it worth it?

Shows I am ten years behind on and watching on Netflix –
I just finished Southland –  love that Ryan Atwood, Lucas Scott and Ponyboy Curtis were all on one show together!
Chicago Fire is next up in my Netflix queue.  And I better get on it because Chicago PD is starting – a spinoff of both Chicago Fire and SVU.

front of house

My House Makeover –  I am ready to write posts revealing Olivia’s bedroom and our Living Room. I am waiting to take Christmas decorations down to showcase the work we did on each room.  Next up this spring and summer – turning our garage into storage and our laundry facilities and converting the basement into a Family Room.  Follow my inspirations on these projects on Pinterest : Basement Makeover and Garage / Laundry Room

cards to frame

Craft Projects on the HorizonFinally getting around to framing all the different OWL cards Olivia has received.  I owe my friend Courtney a 500th Comment Contest Prize from MONTHS ago, planning a Valentine’s Tea Party for Olivia and some of her friends, and making my hubby’s Valentine’s Day present -which was suppose to be his 5th wedding anniversary present, then his Christmas present!! (I also have started a secret Pinterest board for Olivia’s third birthday already! Details and the theme reveal to come!!)

From My Color Coded Life’s family to yours – wishing you an excellent 2014!

Happy Friday everyone and happy last weekend of summer.  I hope whatever plans you have for this long weekend will be relaxing and peaceful before the air starts to cool, the coffee turns pumpkin flavored, and the kids get on the school buses!

Here are all the things I am loving this week!

On TV –

  • Suits – well we knew it was going to hit the fan…we just didn’t know when.  I guess when turned out to be this week.  Yes Steven deserved it – but was it a cheap shot on Harvey’s part?  Weigh in your thoughts!

My Friday Favorites

Happy Friday everyone! I took today off from work so my weekend started last night – BUT some of you only have a few hours left! My faithful readers know I love the weekends, a chance to step away from the grind, spend time with family (or get some precious “me” time.)  I also love recapping all the things I loved about the week in my weekly blog – My Friday Favorites.  So let’s jump right in!

Here is what I am loving this week!

On TV –

  • Suits  is still the only show I am currently watching live!  This week was another good episode…WHAT is Donna getting herself into?  And is Harvey going to pull the old “even if I don’t want you, no one else can have you” routine??

Donna going on her date - Suits

Now is the time of year when you can start reading up on all your favorites shows that are currently filming to start back in the Fall.  Things that I have taken notice to:  Parenthood is moving from Tuesdays to Thursdays – this is a BOO for me .. because now it is up against Greys and Scandal … I’ll have to set the DVR.  The Carrie Diaries is moving from Mondays to Fridays – this is a YAY for me as I never, ever have plans on a Friday night so I will most definitely be able to watch this one.

  • How to Make a Paper Chain Garland from Hank & Hunt  –  such a simple decoration to make and it looks great at any event!  I love these chains as it brings back memories of my childhood when my older sisters would make me advent calendars in December as Paper Chains. Each day I would remove one link which had a secret message inside.   Hank & Hunt is doing a 30 Days of Garland segment – so if you like making banners and garland – check them out for some new creative ideas!

On my Pinterest Board – again I will reference my weekly “Pins You Would Love” email. It tells me great boards to follow and pins that they think I will favorite and repin. (Even though this weekly email proves that Big Brother is watching us on the internet – I still love when it is exactly right!) Here are some boards they told me to follow (and I did.)

Go online and buy two for only $15 and put them away until Christmas. Look, you already have two gifts bought for the holidays- don’t you feel really ahead of the game??

On the wish list  –

  • Index Bookends from The Container Store   aren’t these colorful desk bookends great?  Lots of room to organize all the magazines and files you are saving – plus cute tabs that you can write on with a dry-erase marker.  This way when your needs change – so can your organizational system.  LOVE!

As always, thanks for reading. Have a fabulous weekend.

FF polka dotHappy Friday everyone! I hope you had a great week and that you are looking forward to the weekend.

Here are all my favorite things from the past week.

In the News –

  • It was all Royal Baby, all week long!  And as a self-proclaimed Royal expert, I have been on Baby Watch all month!

And the Monarchy lives on…

Queen Elizabeth baby

Prince Charles

Prince William

Prince George (P.S. Good for Kate to come out and show the world – hey!  You still look pregnant 24 hours after giving birth – even a few weeks or sometimes months!  Maybe Hollywood could embrace this FACT and stop HIDING until they have washboard abs again.)

  • Suits – it’s not just my pick because it’s the only thing on TV (even though it is) it is also a great show.  Oh, no Rachel DID NOT tell Donna she doesn’t know what it’s like to have a life outside of work!!!!  (I hate to admit this, but Rachel is right…)

My Friday Favorites 07.19.13

FFowlWe have reached the end of the week.  Happy Friday!

I’m so glad it is the weekend! Here are all my favorite things from the past seven days.

  • Suits – Season Three returned this week and it didn’t disappoint. I think this is one of the best shows on TV right now but it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.  (click here to read my Season Two Wrap Up) All our favorite characters are back: Harvey, Mike, Donna, Jessica and Louis, but alliances you thought would never be broken are no longer in tact.

Harvey & Mike

Emmy nominations also came out this week – congrats Elizabeth Moss (Peggy Olson), Kerry Washington (Olivia Pope), Connie Britton (Rayna James), John Hamm (Don Draper), and Christina Hendricks (Joan Harris) for their Emmy nods!

On the Page –

  • Better Homes and Gardens – August Issue dubbed “The Budget Issue” – lots of articles on how to decorate with style on a tight budget – accessorizing, furniture shopping , even a kitchen makeover.  I love when magazines show a well put together room with a price tag I can afford!

In the Kitchen –

  • Skinny Frozen Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup from The Scrumptious Pumpkin I love Reese’s peanut butter cups – but in Philadelphia right now it is over 100 degrees everyday.  Too hot – chocolate melts all over the place in this heat.  When I saw this recipe I got very excited (like Wendy’s Frosty excited.) Add in the work “skinny” and wow – I need to try this!

On my Pinterest Board – again my weekly “Pins You Would Love” email got it exactly right! Peach Coolers, Lady Diana, and Gingerbreadmen and Chocolate Fudge

Suits on USA: a recap of Season Two

Suits Season 3

Season three of Suits premieres tonight, Tuesday, July 16 at 10pm EST on USA.  Here’s a quick refresher of what’s going on and where we are about to pick up the story…

Jessica and Mike Jessica knows Mike’s secret

Daniel Hardman ReturnsDaniel Hardman returns a changed man – but we quickly find out he only wants to take his firm back

Mike and Rachel Things got heated, then cool, then very hot between Mike and Rachel

Donna finds the file Donna made a big, big mistake…

Harvey and Donna

Donna walks away …then Harvey did

Louis meets with Allison …and the Louis did

Daniel Hardman Hardman beat Jessica

Jessica then Jessica beat Hardman

Mr ZaneRachel has Daddy issues…

Harvey …and so does Harvey

Scotty returnsScottie returns wanting her firm to merge with Harvey’s

Harvey and Jessica and Harvey and Jessica do not see eye to eye anymore.

Which brings us to the Season 2 finale.  It was down to Harvey vs. Jessica. Whoever wins the case will get what they want. For Jessica, the merger and Harvey will not be a partner.  For Harvey, no merger and his name is stenciled on the door. Harvey told Scottie he didn’t trust her since she wasn’t honest about the merger in the first place.  After being counseled by Donna, Scottie gave up the info Harvey needed to win to Mike.  Jessica warned Mike not to use that info or she would not only fire him, but have him arrested.  Harvey fires Mike.  Jessica rehires Mike.  Harvey loses the case and Scottie is fired for giving the info up.  Harvey knows he has lost the chance to be partner, but still tries to do right by Scottie asking that she is rehired.  But rehired where? The New York office or London?

What happens next?  Tune in tonight at 10PM EST to USA for the first episode of Season 3.

My Friday Favorites 07.12.13

My Friday FavoritesI know – I’ve been gone about a month!  Life just caught up with me – you have to live a life in order to write about one, right? Happy Friday!  Here are My Friday Favorites, posted one day late!

On TVI can’t even watch Bachelorette – I am so disinterested – not even a Katie Holmes look-a-like is making this storyline appealing to me.  I NEED SOME TV IN MY LIFE.  BUT – since I’ve been a way for a few weeks – we haven’t even talked about this:

Don goes back home. Who invited Dick Whitman to the Hershey pitch???

Nothing else is on. Nothing.  But Suits starts back next week so that makes me happy.

Harvey and Scotty

  • This is my favorite time of year to online Christmas shop!!!  I know that sounds crazy – but right after 4th of July thru August are the BEST clearance sales for summer stuff – and it’s good to take a break from the peppermint mocha coffee and candy cans striped candles you usually give!  Some of my favorites right now are: Sur la Table, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn – just to name a few.

In the Kitchen –

  • 20 Summer Salad Recipes from two peas & their pod  – I love salads in the summer, especially ones that have fruit in them.  I found this great post and can’t wait to try some of these out! The blueberry corn salad is one I’ve never tried – looks very yummy! I repinned the pic of it to my Pinterest board :Recipes.  Check out the rest of the salads in this post too.

On the Wish List –

  • As mentioned above – Sur la Table — I might be Christmas shopping – but I always find things I want to!!! A green stockpot – LOVE!

For the Kids –

Ok, that’s it for My Friday Favorites today, it’s a slim list this time – just getting back into the swing of things!

Leave me a comment below and let me know what your favorite things are this week.

Next up this week – Olivia’s Under the Sea Birthday Party and updates on our house!!

Thanks for reading!

My Friday Favorites 02/22/13

Here are all my favorite things from the past seven days.

On TV-   Grey’s Anatomy is starting the pick up again – the last two weeks have been really good – reminding me of the original years.  Seattle Grace Mercy West hasn’t seen its last days yet – thanks Harper-Averys!  The Bachelor continues to drive me crazy – but of course – I am still watching.  Like most seasons, I could care less who is chosen, (and I don’t even think Sean is cute – so I care even LESS than usual)  but love to see the contestants fall in love, go on this journey, follow their hearts, be in it for the right reasons… blah , blah, blah.  Suits – Hardman’s name is down – is Spector’s going up?  and Scotty’s back, make Donna territorial – I love territorial Donna!

  • My pick for Friday Favorite is — Scandal!  Fitz has worked my last nerve – who does he think he is treating Olivia Pope like that?  OH NO HE DIDN’T! And becoming a stalker too?? (And more crossover in Shondaland — Jake is Teddy’s patient turned husband from Grey’s!)

On the Computer –

Pantry Remodel by Jenna Sue

On the page –

  • Real Simple Magazine – March issue – 5 Tough Parental Talks by Emma Johnson … this article isn’t what you might think it’s about – no birds and the bees.  It’s how to talk to your parents about getting older, their wishes if they get sick, and if they have a will.  No online link to this article – but worth buying the magazine to read it. As uncomfortable as it may be, in order to respect your parents wishes and have less decisions to make during an emergency – these conversations are very important to have.   Here is an article with similar themes from Real Simple online – How to Talk to Parents About Aging.

In the kitchen –

  • – 15 Dinners from your Pantry – recipes that use ingredients you most likely already have in your cabinets!  No shopping required.

For the Kids –

  • Awesome ideas for “Toddler Activity Bags.”  Easy to throw in your purse to bring along when you need to keep your little one busy.  Check out Tried & True and Chasing Cheerios for more details on what to put in Toddler Activity Bags and how to organize a Toddler Activity Bag Swap.

On my Twitter Feed – I love Jennifer Weiner’s tweets during the Bachelor – they are hilarious!

Thanks for stopping by and reading My Friday Favorites.  I’d love to hear all about your favorite things, so leave me a comment and let me know what you are loving this week.  Keep the comments coming – remember the person who makes the 400th comment wins a prize! Have a great weekend!
